North Dakota's 188th Comes Home

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 12 months have passed since members of the North Dakota Army National Guard's 188th Engineer Company left the state for a construction-oriented mission in Kuwait. On August 8, they arrived at Fort Bliss, Texas, to demobilize, and they're expected home in the arms of their families and friends on Friday, August. 17

The Soldiers will arrive on two flights landing at Hector Field's old terminal in Fargo at 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Friday. The public is welcome to come and show their support for these returning Guardsmen. Any flight changes can be tracked at www.flightaware.com with Airport Code KBIF, for Biggs Airfield at Fort Bliss, Texas, and Airport Code KFAR, for the Fargo airport. The second charter flight will attempt to arrive earlier than 12:45.

While deployed, the 160 Soldiers — who hail from nearly 70 communities but serve in the unit that's based in Wahpeton and Oakes — performed a wealth of missions. The projects ranged from small repairs and construction jobs to major renovations and building construction. In all, about 160 missions were completed at an estimated value exceeding $2.2 million.

Capt. Lucas Klettke, of Perham, Minn., commands the unit, and 1st Sgt. Eric Binstock, of Argusville, N.D., serves as the senior enlisted leader.
