Fewer DWI Arrests this WE Fest

Posted: Updated:

The Minnesota State Patrol has released numbers from this year's WE Fest in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and troopers think people may be finally getting the message about drinking and driving.

According to the report, there were 420 total traffic stops with 113 citations issued, but just 10 DWI arrests.  Sergeant Jesse Grabow with the Minnesota State Patrol says that is one of the lowest numbers of DWI arrests he can recall, but says it's not from lack of troopers.

The number of troopers doing traffic stops was consistent with years past. Grabow says he believes people are more informed than ever on the risks of driving under the influence and are making safe and smart choices when it comes to getting behind the wheel. Grabow cites the increased number of designated driving contacts, at 59, as a very positive sign.

Some of the other offenses the Minnesota State Patrol handled on WE Fest weekend:

  • Speeding: 190
  • Seatbelt: 67
  • Minor/Open Container: 24
  • Drugs: 6
  • Equipment: 123
  • Warrant Arrests: 3
  • Miscellaneous Offenses: 243
