G.F. Marketing to Oil Boom

Posted: Updated:

Grand Forks is marketing itself to western North Dakota and becoming a player in the oil boom.

The City is trying to bring in new companies from spin off industries of the western North Dakota oil boom.  One of them that has already relocated from Dickinson to Grand Forks is the Steffes Corporation.  It builds metal parts for the oil industry and couldn't find enough employees in western North Dakota.

Kevin Dean, City of Grand Forks: "It's a marketing effort that we're trying to do to help people that are out in the Bakken Oil Reserve. We realize their resources are stretched…  their infrastructure, their housing, their workforce.  So, we're looking  at this and saying perhaps Grand Forks might be an option."

In another deal tied to western North Dakota,  the Grand Forks City Council approved a deal to have its Engineering Department, take over some of the work load reviewing building permits for the City of Dickinson.
