Officers Shot-Tribute

Posted: Updated:

The Rapid City Police Department is marking the one-year anniversary of the death of two officers with a silent memorial.

Starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the Rapid City Police Department Honor Guard will stand in silent memorial to honor Officers Ryan McCandless and Nick Armstrong. The two officers were shot last year during what authorities described as a routine stop. A third officer, Tim Doyle, was injured.

The public is invited to pay their respects at the site. Officers will keep watch over the site until after dark. There will not be a ceremony or public address.

Chief Steve Allender says in a statement that there are no words that can express the loss of the two officers, so the department will remain silent to honor the two men.
