Sanford Event: Not For Everyone

Posted: Updated:

It's one of the biggest groundbreaking events to hit the area. Tonight, Sanford health will be celebrating the future construction of the new medical center in Fargo. They'll even be bringing in rock band Train.

Just a few days ago, the field south of I-94 and Veterans Boulevard was empty, but tonight, it will be filled with 15,000 people. They'll all be there to celebrate the groundbreaking of Sanford Health's new medical center.

Over the past few days, people have been able to watch the set up. Tents are popping up, trucks are driving through and a stage is set up for main entertainment of rock band Train. But if you're hoping to join the party, you'll have to watch from across the street. Only Sanford employees, stakeholders and their guests are invited.

Besides a concert from Train, the NDSU drum line, FM Acro team and a local band will perform. There's also a fireworks show planned. So this is a very extravagant celebration. Sanford wouldn't say how much this will all cost, but says it's about $20 per Sanford employee. And if you do the math, they have about 20,000 employees, which means it's a party worth about $400,000.

If you plan to drive near I-94 or Veterans Boulevard tonight, you may want to find another route around supper time and then again between 9 and 11 P.M. That's when most of the guests will be arriving and traffic is expected to be backed up.
