Sketch released: new details in July 4th boat crash

Posted: Updated:

The Becker County Sheriff's Office has released a sketch of a boat that may have been involved in crash that injured a man on Cormorant Lake on July 4th.

News release from Becker County:

The Becker County Sheriff's Office has been able to locate witnesses that have provided a detailed drawing/conception of the boat that may have struck the Erickson family the night of July 4th at approximately 10:00 PM.  The sheriff's office has downloaded this concept drawing on the county website and we are asking people to please visit at www.co.becker.mn.us and click on the appropriate information relating to the cormorant accident to review this photo.  The boat is believed to be of a 17' or larger fiberglass design with a swimmer's platform attached to the rear portion, i.e. transom, of the boat.

The investigation is indicating that the boat entered the water at the public access located on the west side of Big Cormorant Lake, adjacent to county highway #5.  We are asking anybody that may have used that access in the afternoon/evening hours to contact this office to help us determine a time frame.  With additional information it appears that we are looking at two young adult males and one young adult female that were in the boat and probably arrived at the access together.  For further details please feel free to contact Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon.
