HealthierMe: Vitamin D

Posted: Updated:

People who smoke and don't get enough vitamin D have worse lung function than those who do get enough of the vitamin.

Researchers studied the vitamin D levels and lung function of men over a 20-year period. They found smokers who were vitamin d deficient performed worse on lung function tests than those who had sufficient amounts of the vitamin in their blood. They believe the vitamin may provide some sort protective effect and may change the damaging effects smoking can have on the lungs.
