Schemes & Rip Offs: Medical Card Scam

Posted: Updated:

Over the past two days we've received several emails and phone calls about a new phone scam targeting seniors.

Trying to play off the Supreme Court ruling on the Health Care Law, the caller will tell you that all seniors need to get a new medical card.

Chances are they will know your name and address and will ask you to verify it.

But then they will start asking you for personal information like bank account numbers and Social Security numbers.

If you get one of these calls just hang up.

Experts remind you that legitimate groups - like your insurance company, Social Security, Medicare, and your bank - already have your personal information.

They won't ask you for it unless you are the one initiating the call and they're trying to verify your identity.
