Teen Life-Flighted after Crash

Posted: Updated:

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says charges are pending after multiple people were hurt in a crash in Benson County. Authorities say a Chevrolet van was headed west on North Dakota Highway 2 near Church's Ferry when another vehicle pulled out in front of it.

A Trailblazer headed south on Highway 281 stopped at the intersection of 281 and Highway 2. Two semis were in the turning lane of Highway 2, and the Trailblazer pulled out onto the road crossing the van's path.

The Trailblazer was hit by the van and pushed into he median just west of the intersection. The van spun around but came to a rest on its wheels.

Everyone in the van was taken to Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake with injuries, and the 14-year-old was air-lifted to Fargo. Those in the van included:

  • Shawna Clark, 30, Abilene, Texas
  • 14-year-old from Abilene, Texas
  • Steven Guillory, 26, Conway, Arkansas
  • Richard Mortell, 28, Conway, Arkansas

The driver of the Trailblazer, Diane Hawkins, 65, of Devils Lake was also injured in the wreck and police say charges are pending against her.
