North Dakota health officials have cited two companies, accusing them of dumping more than a half million gallons of raw sewage from oilfield operations in ditches and fields.

The state Health Department announced Friday that it issued violation notices to Fairview, Mont.-based Hurley Oilfield Services and Mon-Dak Water & Septic Service of Stanley.

State environmental health chief Dave Glatt (glaht) says the Montana company is accused of illegally dumping about 100 loads of raw sewage. He says the North Dakota company is accused of dumping about 40 loads. Each load is at least 4,000 gallons.

Glatt says the sewage came from crew camps and drill sites in western North Dakota.Neither company immediately returned telephone calls from The Associated Press on Friday.
