Commission Votes on Bluemont Sidewalks

Posted: Updated:

UPDATED 07/07 8:30 p.m.

The Fargo City Commission has voted to accept a petition that allows the southeast corner of 27th Street South and 26th Avenue South intersection in the Bluemont Lakes Addition to not have sidewalks.

The decision based on original engineering plans from when the addition was first built. There was never any intention to have sidewalks in that area.

Neighbors will be working with city engineers to review the original plans to make sure the sidewalks connect elsewhere as they were meant to. As of right now, though, no action will be taken.

The debate on whether or not sidewalks will be added to the southeast corner of 27th Street South and 26th Avenue South intersection in the Bluemont Lakes Addition should come to an end tonight.

The Fargo City Commission is expected to make a decision after no action was taken by the Planning Commission on June 5.

City Commissioner Brad Wimmer says he will likely vote to approve the petition to not add sidewalks. He believes the people who live there have good talking points for not adding them, and they have plenty of support from others who live in the neighborhood.

Wimmer says it would be a tough engineering job if the Commission denied the petition to grant a Sidewalk Waiver.

The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the City Commission Room at City Hall.
