Freon leak shuts down Grand Forks courthouse

Posted: Updated:

The Grand Forks County courthouse has been shut down because of a freon leak on the roof.  Sheriff Robert Rost says fire alarms sounded in the building around 2:40 p.m.

Firefighters noticed the freon line had broken in the dome area of the courthouse, spilling the freon onto a motor, which then overheated.  Smoke was showing on the third floor of the courthouse.

People were allowed to re-enter the courthouse and retrieve their personal property and leave.  The courthouse was closed for the rest of the day.

Rost says it is not known if the courthouse will be open Tuesday morning.
