Companies Busy Keeping Customers Cool

Posted: Updated:

Temperatures and heat indices continue to soar throughout the area with many spots topping out at or above 90 degrees.

The sweltering heat has many people staying indoors in the air conditioning, and that has service technicians busy at work trying to make sure you stay cool.

Saturday afternoon Dan Klug and his family noticed something was not quite right. Klug says, "The temp in the house started to climb, and it became apparent the A/C wasn't working."

Klug called Laney's to have a service technician come out and take a look at the air conditioner. Within a couple hours Eric Johnson was at the door. Johnson says, "They're usually happy I came."

Laney's sees business rise as the temps rise. "This week's been fairly busy. We got 10 guys that go out and everybody does five or six calls a day," says Johnson. On Saturday, Johnson worked 15 hours taking care of 14 calls with the help of other technicians.

Though, if you start to feel the heat in the house, there are a couple of things you can do before having to call a technician to repair your air conditioning. The first is to check your furnace filter. Make sure it is not dirty. If it is you need to change it.

The other thing you can do is go to your central air or air conditioning unit and look at the condenser coil to see if that is clogged. If the condenser coil is clogged, shutting off the A/C and spraying it down with a hose could help. Johnson says, "If you check the simple things yourself and you make sure your thermostat is on, make sure your breakers are on."

At that point, when the unit still is not working, it is time to call in places like Laney's.

Klug says, "It was nice that they were able to show up so quickly. I just hope it isn't anything major, and it's a simple service, and they'll get it up and running."

Johnson says you should change one inch furnace filters every three months and four inch filters every six months to a year. You should also clean your condenser coil once a year. These things should prevent little problems from showing up.
