UPDATE 1:15pm

Valley News Team's Mike Morken reports from the scene that it may be some time before the road is fully open. The fire keeps re-igniting.  Mike tells us plastic pellets on the truck have melted into a hard shell, making it harder for crews to get to the pockets of fire remaining.

From ND Highway Patrol:

On June 25th, 2012 at 1000 a.m. a semi traveling north bound on I29 had some type of mechanical failure that caused the semi and trailer to start on fire.

The Semi including the trailer burned to the ground on the right should of I29 MP 93.   This location is 1 mile north of Grandin ND or 11 miles south of Hillsboro ND in Traill County.

The fire created a hazard and reduced visibility for the public.   I29 north bound was closed entirely with north bound traffic being diverted onto Co. RD 81 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

The Left lane was reopened allowing traffic to pass by the scene safely at 11:45 a.m.

The right lane will remain closed until the scene is clear and the debris removed.
