Flushing System Recall

Posted: Updated:

Better check your toilet: More than 2.3 million toilet flushing systems are being recalled after more than 300 people reported the units burst.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the pressure can lift the tank lid and shatter the tank. There are reports of 14 impact or laceration injuries and property damage.

Check inside your toilet tank and see if you have a series 503 flushmate three pressure-assist flushing system. They were made between October 1997 and February 2008.

The date code/serial number is 16 characters long and is located on the label on the top of the Flushmate III. The first six numerals of the serial number are the date code. The date code range for this recall begins with 101497 (October 14, 1997) and continues through 022908 (February 29, 2008).

They were sold at Lowe's, The Home Depot and other stores. If you have one, turn off the water to your toilet and contact flushmate to request a free repair kit.  According to CPSC.GOV, Flushmate's toll-free phone number is 800-303-5123.
