Police worry about synthetic drug trend

Posted: Updated:

Authorities in Grand Forks say they're seeing an increasing number of reports of young people having bad reactions to synthetic drugs that cause hallucinations.

One 17-year-old boy was in critical condition in a Grand Forks hospital after he overdosed on a synthetic drug that mimics the effect of hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Police say they also suspect drug use played a role in the death of an 18-year-old Grand Forks man. His body was found on a north Grand Forks sidewalk last Monday.

Grand Forks Police Lt. Jim Remer says the synthetic drugs are easy to get and often sold as "bath salts."
