General Mills Stance Praised

Posted: Updated:

Local activists are praising the latest major Minnesota corporation joining those that
have come out against the same-sex marriage ban set for November's ballot.

The president of the Fargo-Moorhead Pride Collective says she was excited to hear
General Mills' statement against the proposed constitutional amendment.

She says she thinks it's part of a greater trend of increasing support for same-sex
marriage rights in the nation.

"I  think the bigger corporations are already more likely to support same-sex partner rights within their companies, and it's good that they're taking it public," says the Pride Collective's Jamie Coston-Hirsch. "And it was a way to show their employees how important they are to them. The people who run your company are really your employees, and if you show them you care, they're going to do a better job for you. "

General Mills leaders said Wednesday they think the amendment would be bad for their
employees, and for the state's economy.

They are the fourth major Minnesota corporation to take a stand against outlawing same-sex marriage through changing the state constitution
