HealthierMe: Supplement Confusion

An estimated 1 in 5 Americans take a calcium or vitamin D supplement with the hopes of preventing osteoporosis or cancer, even if they're getting enough of these nutrients in their diet. But now the US Preventive Services Task Force says it isn't sure the pills are helping our health adding to the confusion that many people experience when it comes to vitamins.

After reviewing studies of whether those supplements do as promised, a government advisory panel now says postmenopausal women should not take anything lower than 400 international units of vitamin D and 1000 mg of calcium.
