Good Turnout Expected at ND Primary

Posted: Updated:

North Dakota's secretary of state is hoping for one of the state's biggest primary election turnouts today. Al Jaeger says as of Monday afternoon, more than 43,000 North Dakotans had already voted in Tuesday's election. Some counties have early-voting setups, and thousands of North Dakotans have been casting absentee ballots.

Jaeger says he's hoping the turnout will compare to 1992, when more than 31 percent of the eligible voters came to the polls. They were motivated in part by a Democratic nomination contest for governor. Almost 147,000 North Dakotans voted in that election. If there's a similar turnout today, about 168,000 North Dakotans will cast ballots.
