Fargo Man Facing Attempted Kidnapping Charges

Posted: Updated:

A Fargo man is in custody tonight looking at some serious charges and serious jail time. Brandon Peterson was arrested today for what police are calling the attempted kidnapping of a woman Thursday morning near Island Park in Fargo.

Brandon Michael Peterson is being accused of a crime that we don't really hear of a lot in the  F-M area.

Lt. Joel Vettel of the Fargo Police Department breaks down the charges, "working with the states attorneys office we feel that attempted abduction, attempted kidnapping, was the appropriate charge at this time."

The Fargo P-D says Peterson parked his car near Island Park in South Fargo, got out and attempted to drag a woman who was by herself back to his car. Fortunately the woman broke free, got a decent description of the him, and relayed that information to the police.

"It really is a good reminder to everyone that even though we live in one of the safest places in the world, things can happen. Especially at times when you're a little more vulnerable. Certainly at 2:00 am when someone is walking by themselves," says Lt. Vettel.

Lt. Vettel says without the the victim and a eye witness' recall of the event on Thursday morning this investigation would have been difficult to get to the bottom of in a mere 36 hours. Adding that the publics help in timely cases like this helps keep our city safe, "we learn from these types of incidences and it certainly teaches us again that at any time you can be a victim of a crime. It's just what you do and how you do it and how you deal with that, that ultimately determines how things work out."

Peterson could face up to 20 years behind bars if convicted. The charges also carry a maximum $10,000 dollar fine.
