If you can't make it to election day, you've got all week. Today (Monday) is the first day of early voting in Cass County, and the heated issues on the ballot is affecting voter turnout.
As a Vietnam veteran, Bruce Ely of Fargo knows the importance of freedom, which is why he made sure to get his vote in.
Bruce says, "The tax issue has really gotten me here."
Bruce and hundreds of others are hitting the ballot box to voice there opinion for the first day of early voting in Cass County. It will be going all week and allows people to vote on their schedule, while easing the craziness of election day.
Cass County Election Coordinator, DeAnn Buckhouse, says, "We typically don't have great numbers, but I think this year is going to be an exception."
When the polls first opened, there were lines out the door and it's being attributed to the issues on the ballot that can trigger passion.
Buckhouse says, "I just think because of the measures. There's been a lot of publicity on the measures."
"I'm pretty sure I saw one TV ad that says if you pass measure number three that religious people are to be able to beat their wives," says Bruce.
And that passion and point of view that Bruce has is why he says voting is important. He says, "Some times the prices of freedom is blood, when it comes down to it. Just don't give it up. Just don't give up you're freedom."
One thing to remember on the partisan ballot is that you can only vote for party. If you'd like to vote, you can go to the Hilton Garden Inn in Fargo and Lodoen Kindergarten Center in West Fargo until Friday from 10 a.m. to 7p.m. Starting on Wednesday through Friday in Casselton, you can go to the Days Inn from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
