Clay County Gets New Squad Cars

Posted: Updated:

The Clay County Sheriff's Office is now the proud owner of 12 new squad cars. They include 7 Police Interceptor explorers, 4 expeditions, and 1 van.

The new cars replace existing ones already in the sheriff's fleet that have reached the end of their life and will now be sold on-line or sent to auction in the fall.

Features of the upgrade include expanded cargo room and greater space for deputies. New cameras and on-board technology, even a printer for tickets. Not only saving the deputies time but the county clerks office as well.

Sheriff Bill Bergquist says the new cars will stay with the department for about three years, at which time they'll have accumulated around 110,000 miles, be sent to auction and then replaced with new vehicles.

Bergquist also adds larger vehicles like explorers and expeditions are ideal for Clay County since deputies may often find them self's in search and rescue type situations on dirt or no roads at all.

Clay County Deputies are already pleased with their new cars, all 12 are expected to be fully upgraded and on patrol by July.
