Family Rescued from Lake

Posted: Updated:

A Fosston, Minnesota father and his three sons had a thrilling night. They rode out Tuesday night's thunder storm stranded in their fishing boat on Turtle Lake near Fosston.

The man is embarrassed about the incident and we've honored his request to not use their names.

They were stranded on the lake, when the gas motor on their boat died. They decided to fish a little longer using the trolling motor, when it also went dead. They didn't have oars and the storm hit.

He called the Sheriff's Department on his cell phone. Deputies were then able to locate them using a spotlight.

Sgt. Randy Sondrol, Polk County Sheriff's Dept.: "He later called me as I was searching for him and said the wind is really starting to pickup, which they were starting to get a little nervous about… and ended up blowing them into shore."

Sondrol says they were able to throw the family a rescue line and get them all onto shore safely.
