Student Video Takes Stand Against Bullies

Posted: Updated:

It's a problem that's made headlines in the valley and across the nation.

Bullying has effected many kids throughout the area.

And some students from Horizon Middle School in Moorhead are trying to make an impact of their own.

The video depicts a young girl being bullied, and the toll it takes on her.

It's set to the song "Eyes Open" by Taylor Swift.

Seventh graders Hannah Papenfuss, Devon Solwold and Linka Wintersteen hope it makes a difference.

"It's about acceptance," said Solwold, who shot and edited the video. "And I think that a lot of kids who are bullying need to know that they're hurting someone."

"At least for me, I hope to raise awareness about bullying," said Papenfuss, who came up with the idea for the video. "Not just for kids with disabilities because the main person was in a wheelchair, but more of just the acceptance of overall people."

Hannah, who was born with cerebral palsy, said while she hasn't been a victim of bullying herself she has seen inconsiderate actions by fellow students directed at her.

She came up with the idea for the video, Devon shot and edited it, and Linka was the main character.

All three with the idea they could, perhaps, make more eyes open to the problem of bullying.

"I think that's what really makes you feel like you really need to do something about it," said Solwold "(Be)cause it's a really serious subject and I think that's what it should feel like to a lot of people."

"I think it really speaks for a lot of people who may not have a voice to tell their own story that are disabled," said Papenfuss.
