Grand Forks Fire Sends One To Hospital

Posted: Updated:

From the Grand Forks Fire Department:

The Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched at 3:04 PM to 504 ½ Chestnut Street for a report of smoke coming from the top floor window of a 2 ½ story duplex apartment.  Fire crews forced entry to the second floor loft style apartment and encountered smoke near floor level. One resident and two dogs were rescued from the apartment; the resident was transported to Altru Hospital for evaluation.

Unattended cooking appears to be the cause of the fire, the fire was contained to the area of the stove and minimal structural damage was caused. The building was ventilated and the main floor residents were allowed to return to their apartment accompanied by the neighbor's dogs.

The Grand Forks Fire Department offers these reminders:

1)      Never leave the kitchen when pots or pans are heating on the stove

2)      Always have a tight fitting lid for pots or pans on the stove

3)      Have a fire extinguisher nearby
