County reimbursed for cornfield search

Posted: Updated:

The Cass County Sheriff's Department says Extradition Transport of America has reimbursed the county for all expenses related to the arrest of escaped prisoner, Joseph Megna.

Megna escaped from a rest area near Oriska, North Dakota, in Barnes County on October 6, 2011.  He was caught the next day and taken into custody.

Extradition Transport of America reimbursed the county $7,981.28 for costs involved in helping find Megna.

Barnes County Chief Deputy Don Fiebiger says the extradition company is still in discussions with that county.

Fiebiger says other agencies have also been reimbursed.  He says the county will likely settle after others involved in the standoff, including area farmers, receive payments.
