The North Dakota Department of Transportation is kicking off two big road construction projects. 10th Street North and the 7th Avenue North overpass could cause some travel trouble starting Monday Morning.

10TH STREET NORTH

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) would like to update the traveling public on the 10th St. N reconstruction project. Starting Monday, April 9, crews will close 10th St. N for a two-block stretch, from 15th Ave. N to 17th Ave. N (to include closure of 17thAve).

Northbound traffic will be detoured east on 15th Ave. N to N Broadway Drive, where motorists will travel head-to-head (one lane in each direction) to 19th Ave. N, where the detour route turns west to reconnect with 10th St. N.

The above street closure is required as part of Phase 1 of the project.

The scope of the project work includes the complete reconstruction of 10th St. N between 12th Ave. N and 17th Ave. N. Weather dependent, work will continue through mid – Oct. 2012.

The reconstruction project is needed to improve load-carrying capacity, ride quality, pedestrian facilities, drainage, lighting and safety features. The project will also update the traffic signals, lighting, storm sewer, water main and the sanitary sewer system. The contract was awarded to Dakota Underground of Fargo.

"Due to the reconstruction work taking place and the large amount of daily traffic on this route – delays should be anticipated," said Kevin Gorder, PE, NDDOT assistant district engineer.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the area by reducing speeds, obeying flaggers and posted signs.

7TH AVENUE NORTH OVERPASS PROJECT

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) would like to update the traveling public on the 7th Avenue North overpass bridge project. Starting Monday, April 9, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on I-29 through the work zone. The median lanes (inside lanes) on both northbound and southbound I-29 will be closed as project work gets underway.

The interstate lane closures will begin south of Main Avenue for the northbound lane and north of 12th Avenue for the southbound lane. The lane closures on I-29 northbound and southbound will stay in effect until the completion of the project. There will be lane closure shifts on the interstate as needed with project work. Motorists may experience brief delays and should be aware of trucks and equipment entering and exiting the work zone on the interstate.

The interstate lane closures are needed to begin work on the overpass of 7th Avenue North. The scope of work for this project is to remove and replace driving surface on the 7th Avenue North overpass, widen the bridge to add a pedestrian crossing and reconstruct roadway on both sides of the bridge including intersections.

The project will improve the condition of the driving surface on the bridge. It will also widen the bridge to allow the construction of a multi-use path across the interstate. In addition, erosion is exposing bridge piling and this project will fix this erosion. Additional lighting will also be added.

The traveling public should use caution when traveling through the construction zone. Weather dependent, work will continue through Oct. 2012.
