Safe Grilling - Valley News Live - KVLY/KXJB - Fargo/Grand Forks

Safe Grilling

Posted: Updated:

The nice weather has a lot of us grilling on our decks. It is a fun family activity, but it can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

With grilling season underway, the Fargo Fire Department is reminding you to stay safe when grilling this year. The U.S. Fire administration reports about 5,700 grill fires every year.

Fargo firefighters say one of the biggest problems is when people run out of lighter fluid --they use gasoline to light their grill instead. This can cause an explosion or large fire, catching yourself and your deck or nearby structures on fire.  Firefighters say they see this happen at least once a year in our area.

They also remind you to also check your propane lines for leaks and change out your drip pan to prevent fires.
