Police Department News Release

The Grand Forks Police Department was contacted by a citizen regarding a phone call he received from someone claiming to represent the police department. The citizen reported that he was advised that he had an unpaid parking ticket, and then his credit card information was requested to make payment on the ticket. The citizen correctly ascertained this was a fraudulent attempt to gain his credit card information.

Though the Grand Forks Police Department does make efforts to contact citizens regarding outstanding warrants and unpaid parking tickets, the police department does not request credit card information over the phone. Arrangements would be made for the person to come to the police department to take care of the unpaid ticket or warrant in person.

The Grand Forks Police Department would urge citizens that have provided their credit card information over the phone under similar circumstances to contact the police department, as well as their credit card company regarding possible fraud.

The police department non emergency phone number is 701-787-8000.
