4G Vs. 3G -- What Do You Need to Know?

Posted: Updated:

3G or 4G... It is hard to know what you really need these days.

The ads are as commonplace as car commercials... wireless companies touting "4G" ... while some are still confused by "3G".

Dan Costa / Editor in Chief, PC Magazine: "The whole G-way of counting what wireless networks we're on is sort of an invention but 4G just stands for 4th generation, the latest generation, the fastest through-puts"

Think of it this way...your old PC's dial-up Internet access... compared to what happened when you switched to a cable modem.

That's all that's at play here..

Dan Costa / Editor in Chief, PC Magazine: "Yea..it's all about the upload and download times"

Dan Costa's Editor in Chief at PC Magazine says super fast network connections are imperative... now that people use smart phones for work...and pleasure... like live TV viewing... or watching movies.

Dan Costa / Editor in Chief, PC Magazine: "So your 4G connection can get ten times the through-put of a 3G connection and on some networks, it's radically, radically faster"

Another benefit for for cell phone users... 4G is expected to solve 3G's most persistent problem.. the dreaded dropped call.
