USD Tops Cold-Shooting Bison 53-40

Amber Hegge scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lift the University of South Dakota to a 53-40 win over North Dakota State University in a Summit League women's basketball game played before 1,411 in the DakotaDome.

North Dakota State (9-17, 6-8 Summit League) is scheduled to play at UMKC (15-10, 6-7 Summit League) at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13. South Dakota State edged the Kangaroos 79-73 on Saturday.

Hegge scored 15 of her game-high 28 points as the Coyotes raced to a 32-14 halftime lead. USD shot 48.1 percent in the first half compared to 17.6 percent for NDSU.

Hegge connected on 11 of 19 from the field including 2 of 4 three-pointers and made all four free throw attempts. Kelly Stewart provided a spark for the Coyotes in the opening half netting 7 of her 12 points off the bench.

South Dakota's lead grew to as many as 28 points midway in the second half, but the Bison did cut the margin in half with an 11-0 run late.

Abby Plucker led North Dakota State with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Janae Burich scored eight points and recorded 12 rebounds.

South Dakota finished shooting 40.4 percent from the field compared to 23.8 percent for the Bison. NDSU held a 42-38 rebounding edge.
