
Freshman Kahla Becken scored a season and game-high 19 points as North Dakota State University defeated Valley City State 85-64 in a non-conference women's basketball game played Saturday, Nov. 26, before 652 fans in the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State (2-4), which won its first home game in four tries, is scheduled to open Summit League play on the road at IUPUI (2-2) on Nov. 30 and at Western Illinois (2-3) on Dec. 2.
Becken led a group of four in double-figures as all 10 players who dressed for NDSU, scored. Becken hit 7 of 10 from the field including 3 of 4 three-pointers and added three assists.
Dani DeGagne scored nine of her 15 points in the first four minutes for the Bison, who trailed only briefly 3-0. DeGagne made 7 of 9 from the field.
North Dakota State led 47-19 at halftime, hitting 51.5 percent from the field compared to 22.6 percent for the Vkings.
Abby Plucker scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to record her third "double-double" over the past four games. Plucker made 9 of 10 free throws as NDSU finished 19 of 22 overall for 86.4 percent from the foul line.
Valley City State (3-7) kept hanging around behind the shooting of Stephanie Pedersen, who led the Vikings with 17 points. Pedersen made 5 of 6 from the field including all 3 three-pointers and hit 4 of 5 free throws. Sadiqah Jihad scored 13 points and Sierra Even added 12.
NDSU held a 47-30 advantage on glass, but committed 18 turnovers compared to 15 for the Vikings. Britney Gaines added 10 points off the bench for the Bison.
