Minot residents told to boil city drinking water - Valley News Live - KVLY/KXJB - Fargo/Grand Forks

Minot boiling city drinking water

Posted: Updated:

Problems at the Minot water plant have prompted the state Health Department to say the city water should be boiled before anyone drinks it.

Regional health official James Heckaman said Saturday that Minot's water should not be used for drinking, brushing teeth, preparing food or making ice unless it is boiled.

The boil order also applies to the Minot Air Force Base, because it gets its water from Minot's system.

Heckman says iodine or chlorine treatments could be used, but those are less effective.

Minot public works director Alan Walter says he expects the problem will be resolved within two days.

Minot Mayor Curt Zimbelman says it isn't certain whether the city's water supply was contaminated until some tests are done. Zimbelman describes the boil order as a precaution.
