This morning Governor Mark Dayton caught and released a northern pike at his first Governor's Fishing Opener, held in Grand Rapids.

 The Governor officially kicked-off the fishing season by casting a line at 12:01am, spending more than two hours out on the lake.  His catch came at approximately 9:00am, shortly after a send-off ceremony at Pokegama Lake.  

 His fishing host, Grand Rapids native Scott Glorvigen, andArmy National Guard Specialist Shelby Lego accompanied the Governor this morning. Spc. Lego also hooked a northern as well as a smallmouth bass. Spc.. Lego served in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom from June 2009 – June 2010 and is a graduate of Remer-Northwestern High School and a current student at Itasca Community College.
