United Way looking for school supply donations

FARGO-MOORHEAD (Valley News Live) – Like it or not, the back-to-school shopping season is here. You are again being asked to think about kids and their families who need a helping hand.

The United Way of Cass-Clay kicked off its annual school supply drive on Monday. Last year, nearly 5,300 young people received back-to-school goodies through this back-pack program.

When you hit the stores shopping for your own children, the United Way is asking you to pick up a few extra things. In particular, backpacks and the supplies that go in them.

"We all want things that we can grasp and show ownership and pride in. The School Supply Drive and the back packs and the different supplies that students receive, allow them to take pride and show ownership in things that are truly theirs, when they may not have a lot of things that are theirs," said Lisa Klabunde, a counselor at West Fargo Public Schools.

You can drop off your contributions July 12-July 29. The following business are drop-off locations:

• West Acres Shopping Center
• The Moorhead Center Mall
• Gate City Bank locations
• First International Bank locations
• Great North Insurance
• Family Wellness
• Wal-Mart
• United Way of Cass-Clay office

The back-packs will be distributed early next month at the Fargodome. Any kindergarten through 12th grade student in need, in Cass or Clay County, is eligible for the program.
