Fergus Falls City Council Member Dies in Police Chase

UPDATE:

The Minnesota State Patrol says 62-year-old Timothy Rundquist was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a parked police car.

Rundquist was an instructor at Minnesota State University-Moorhead school of business and a Fergus Falls city council member.

The Minnesota State Patrol says Rundquist refused to stop when a trooper tried to pull him over Monday evening on Highway 54 near Elbow Lake, Minnesota.

After an 11 mile chase, Rundquist's car hit stop sticks and ran head-on into a parked police car. Rundquist was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were hurt.

The Minnesota State Patrol plans to release more details about what happened during a news conference Tuesday afternoon. Valley News Live will be there and have more on this story tonight on Valley News Live.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Minnesota State Patrol says a man died Monday in a head-on crash with a parked squad car while trying to flee from another officer.

It happened around 5 p.m. near Interstate 94 and Highway 59 in Otter Tail County.

Police say a trooper initiated a traffic stop on Highway 54 near Elbow Lake, but the driver fled. About 11 miles later, the suspect vehicle hit stop sticks deployed by police, then hit a parked, unoccupied Ashby Police car head-in.

Police say the suspect was trapped in his vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.

No officers were injured.
