"Girls on the Run" 5K Encourages Confidence in Girls

By  |

Girls will be on the run this weekend and you are invited to join in on the fun!

The Girls On The Run organization is holding it's first ever 5K race in Fargo on Saturday, Oct. 3rd.

It all starts in Lindenwood Park in Fargo at 9 am. Everyone is welcome to register.

Girls on the Run is described as a life-changing, non-profit program for girls in the 3rd through 5th grades. Their mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

The 20-lesson Girls on the Run curriculum combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with lessons that inspire girls to become independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills and make healthy decisions. All of this is accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.

GOTR Cass County is an Independent Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of 200+ locations across the United States and Canada.

The girls will run on Saturday, but everyone is welcome to take part in the race. Registration is still open online and you can register day of at Lindenwood Park.

Organizers say it is a great run for moms and daughters to do together, but encourage everyone who supports the strong, confident girls to run.

The Valley Today's Lisa Budeau is the race ambassador. She will be running and sharing some motivational thoughts with the girls before the race.
