An annual list from Livability.com has ranked downtown Fargo as one of America’s 10 best among small to mid-sized cities.
Fargo earned high scores for its growing population, walkability and offering people lively entertainment options and dynamic arts and cultural attractions.
Livabilities editors say in cities big and small, downtowns across the country continue to gain populations, and more and more people opt to live in these thriving urban playgrounds. Young professionals between the ages of 22 and 34 are especially drawn to downtowns, where people can congregate, enjoy shopping and dining, walk, bike and, most importantly, live.
The survey looked for areas with new construction because cranes are often a great sign of economic and cultural recovery. They also weighed in with their own opinions.
“We’re really in a new golden age of American downtowns,” says Livability editor Matt Carmichael. "Throughout cities large and small, the energy and resources focused on restoring Main Streets and urban cores is paying off.”
Livability says low vacancy rates, a projected climb in household income and low median age show that downtown Fargo is becoming more of an “it” spot.
