BEMIDJI, Minn. (Valley News Live) -- The Moorhead Spuds boys' hockey team rallied late, scoring two goals in the final three minutes of the game, but could not overcome St. Michael-Albertville falling 6-5 in the Section 8AA championship game.
The Spuds (20-8) jumped out to a quick two goal lead within the first two minutes of the game but the Knights answered back with two first period goals of their own to tie the game after one.
STMA (23-5) proved to be the better team in the second period adding two more goals to take a 4-2 lead into the third period.
Moorhead senior Carter Randklev tallied a goal just over 30 seconds into the third period to cut the lead to 4-3. The Knights collected the next two to grab a 6-3 advantage.
Moorhead did not go quietly scoring twice in the final three minutes of the game but ran out of time before getting a chance to tie the game and force overtime.
St. Michael-Albertville, playing in their first Class AA section championship game will make their first appearance at the MSHSL State Tournament.
