No. 12 South Dakota State Beats NDSU 22-12

BROOKINGS, S.D. (NDSU Athletics) -- South Dakota State won six bouts including a pair of tech falls to defeat North Dakota State 22-12 in a Big 12 Conference dual Friday, Feb. 16, in Frost Arena. SDSU won the Border Bell trophy for third straight season and extended its win streak to 14.

NDSU is scheduled to compete in the Big 12 Championships on March 3-4 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. The Bison finished the dual season 7-10 overall and 1-7 in #Big12WR.

North Dakota State opened with No. 10-ranked 157-pounder Clay Ream’s exhausting 7-5 sudden victory-2 overtime decision over No. 13 Luke Zilverberg. Ream trailed 5-3 late in the second period before recording a takedown with 12-seconds left.

The score remained tied 5-5 through the third period, the first sudden victory-1 overtime and the two 30-second tiebreaker sessions. Ream secured the win with a takedown with 26-seconds left. He improved 21-3 overall and 15-1 in duals.

NDSU No. 24 165-pounder Andrew Fogarty gained a 6-3 decision over Logan Peterson. Fogarty is now 27-9 overall and 11-6 in duals.

South Dakota State (14-2, 7-0 #Big12WR) responded with three straight wins including the first of two tech falls, this one by No. 10-ranked David Kocer, 16-1 at 6:13 over Dylan Urbach at 174 pounds.

North Dakota State 285 Dan Stibral stopped the SDSU run with a convincing 5-0 decision over Alex Macki. Stibral improved to 18-12 overall, 8-9 in duals.

South Dakota State answered with three straight wins including top-ranked 133-pounder Seth Gross’ 16-0 tech fall at 4:00 over Cam Sykora.

NDSU’s No. 24-ranked 149 Kyle Gliva held off a late charge for a 7-4 decision over Colten Carlson. Gliva is now 21-10 and 11-5 in duals.
