MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) -- North Dakota hockey claimed one of the top local recruits Wednesday as Moorhead Spud Carter Randklev announced on Twitter his commitment.
Randklev tweeted, "I’m honored and humbled to announce my commitment to play hockey at the University of North Dakota. Thank you to all who have supported me along the way! #ForeverSioux"
The senior was initially committed to play his college hockey at Arizona State but de-committed this season.
North Dakota, Minnesota and St. Cloud State were among many of the schools recruiting Randklev since his de-commitment.
He says it was an eye opening experience to get attention from those schools but it has been a dream since he was little to play for North Dakota.
"I can't even put it into words honestly," he said Wednesday. "It's, like I said, it's something that I never thought would be true and just one day hoping, or being able to put that jersey on. I still say hoping because it's always been a dream but now that it's a reality it feels great."
A major contributor for the Spuds hockey team, Randklev has notched his 100th career point this season and earned himself a spot on ESPN's Sports Center Top 10 in November.
