MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) -- The Moorhead Spuds are opening up their home schedule Friday night, hosting Sauk Rapids-Rice.
The Spuds come in off a loss to the defending state champions.
A scoreless game in to the second quarter the Spuds would take a lead with under three to play till half. Quarterback Jack Stetz connected on a pass to Ethan Hoff for the 7-0 lead.
Another tight fight in the third quarter has this one tied up at 7-7 but the fourth quarter was where the Spuds really began to shine.
Terrence Weah would put the Spuds up fourth quarter. The first of three touchdowns Moorhead would score in the fourth.
While the offense did the scoring, the defense played a major roll. Forcing three turnovers to keep the Spuds in control of their destiny.
"You know what they were flying around but I do think we have better football ahead of us in all three phases of the game," said head coach Kevin Feeney. "I think they're going to be happy with some of the things but certainly there are going to be a lot on film that we can improve a lot."
A 28-7 final serves as the first win of the season for Feeney's team. They are on the road next at St. Cloud Tech.
