OMAHA, Neb. (NDSU Athletics) -- Paul Miller had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead North Dakota State to an 84-62 victory over Omaha in Summit League men's basketball Saturday, Feb. 24, at Baxter Arena.
Cameron Hunter made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for the Bison, who ended the regular season 14-16 overall and tied for fifth place in The Summit League with a 5-9 record.
Tyson Ward added 16 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, one block and one steal for NDSU. AJ Jacobson and Jared Samuelson each scored 12 points.
Hunter was 5 of 7 and Samuelson was 4 of 5 from the 3-point line as the Bison went 13 of 27 from beyond the arc. NDSU shot 55 percent overall.
North Dakota State made its first four shots of the game and led by as many as 19 points in the first half while shooting 62 percent from the field. The Bison cooled off after intermission and Omaha trimmed a 46-33 halftime deficit to six points with 12 minutes to play.
Samuelson, a sophomore from nearby Gretna, Neb., drained back-to-back 3-pointers to restore NDSU's double-digit lead with 10 minutes to go, and a wide-open triple from Ward with 4:35 left pushed NDSU's lead to 20 points.
KJ Robinson scored 20 points for Omaha and Mitch Hahn had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Daniel Norl and JT Gibson scored 10 points apiece for the Mavs, who dropped to 9-21 overall and finished seventh in the league with a 4-10 record.
North Dakota State, which tied Oral Roberts for fifth in the final standings, will carry the No. 5 seed into the Summit League tournament. NDSU's win over second-place South Dakota gives the Bison the tiebreaker over No. 6 seed ORU, which lost twice to the Coyotes.
NDSU will face the No. 4 seed, either Fort Wayne or Denver, in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
