Fargo Public Schools name the 2017 Teacher of the Year award

The annual Teacher of the Year award was presented to South High School English Learner Language Arts Instructor, Leah Juelke. She was surprised with the award on Monday, March 20th during a school assembly.

Juelke began teaching with Fargo Public Schools in 2013 as an English Learners Language Arts instructor. She also served as a substitute teacher and a summer school English as a Second Language instructor with the Fargo Public Schools.

Recently, Juelke and her South High School English Learner (EL) students received national media attention for the students' short story narratives. These narratives are documenting their immigrant experiences. Now in the third year of the project, EL students have presented their journeys in written form online and also given annual presentations on the NDSU campus.

Juelke's selection was based on enthusiastic testimonials - from colleagues, administrators, and students - expressing a teacher who has a passion for education and is dedicated to ensuring each student has the skills and mindset he or she needs to succeed.
