Restaurant Report Card: EGF restaurant says good, clean reason behind black specks in salt shaker

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (Valley News Live) - A Valley News Live viewer sent a photo of a salt shaker from the Blue Moose Bar & Grill in East Grand Forks. In the photo, you can see what appears to be black specks in the bottom of the salt shaker.

According to the viewer, the black specks were turning the salt yellow and was in multiple salt shakers.

Patrick Boppre, Blue Moose Bar & Grill GM's, said there's a good, clean reason behind the black specks.

"Every week we clean out our salt and pepper shakers. We send them through the dishwasher and that's why there were some black specks in one of the salt shakers," Boppre said. "They had used an old pepper shaker and added salt to it, so that's why there are black specks in the salt shaker."

Boppre said he takes all customer complaints seriously and he would have easily given the concerned customer an explanation.
The restaurant's most recent health inspection report had three critical violations. Boppre said those have been corrected. You can see the report in the Related Documents section to the right of this story.
