Restaurant Report Card: Bonzer's receives Clean Plate Award

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) - For more than 30 years, Bonzer's Sandwich Pub has been a Grand Forks staple. With UND memorabilia on almost every wall, it feels more like your favorite relative's kitchen than a restaurant.

They're this week's Clean Plate Award winner because of their critical violation free inspection.

"Critical violations sounds pretty serious but it can be for some simple things that can be easily fixed," Matt Bonzer said. "It's something you have to constantly be on top of and looking out for."

Bonzer grew up at this restaurant and said they're two main reasons why they manage to always pass their inspection reports with flying colors.

"It's because of Jon Bonzer. He takes it very, very, very seriously and he 's made it a point to instill that in me. We really focus on keeping an open dialogue with the health inspectors," Bonzer said.

Two other restaurants in Grand Forks didn't do so well on their most recent health inspection reports.

China Garden, a repeat offender, received 3 critical violations. Amazing Grains received 4 critical violations. Neither restaurant gave us a comment on what they're doing to make sure these violations don't happen again. You can view inspection reports for all 3 restaurants below.
