BISMARCK, N.D. (Valley News Live) North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple is ordering an emergency evacuation of campers in Morton County, to safeguard against harsh winter conditions.
Governor Dalrymple signed the order on Monday "out of concern for the safety of those camping on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers land in southern Morton County."
In a press release from the governor’s office, it says, “The emergency order addresses safety concerns and the potential danger to human life for those camping on federal property without proper shelter during harsh winter conditions.
In the order, Dalrymple notes that the Corps has required campers to vacate the federal property for safety reasons, and he shares his concern that severe weather conditions would impede access by emergency medical responders and other emergency services.”
The release goes on to say, “The governor’s order says the un-permitted camp sites are not zoned for dwellings suitable for living in winter conditions and do not provide proper sanitation infrastructure to sustain a living environment consistent with proper public health.”
