FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - There are still questions surrounding the death of a 17-year-old high school students who was visiting friends at NDSU at the time.
One mom's Facebook post about what happened is getting shared over a thousand times, even by the family of the teen who died.
The same day as 17-year-old Devin Delaney was found unresponsive was the same day Katie Dilse came to Fargo to pick up her freshman son. She says, "It could have been so many of us moms standing here, feeling that hurt."
She came the same day, to the same dorm, to find out her son lives on the same floor it happened. She says, "We have had a similar situation that scared the death out of me, and it's the greatest fear when he dropped me off a month ago, something would happen to him that would change his life forever."
Dilse made a Facebook post, in hopes someone would hear her, and maybe someone would listen. “It could have been my son,” she wrote. She was pleading as a mom for students to look out for one another, check in on one another, and be the kind of friend who doesn't walk away. She says, "We have four sons actually, and we talk all the time and we model by example and we are imperfect parents, every single one of us, and our kids are imperfect. I don't expect my kids to do perfect things, but I want them to learn from every mistake. They are going to make mistakes, we just don't want them to be a life changing mistake."
The cause of the 17-year-old's death hasn't been released, although students tell us he was drinking with a group of friends. The BCI is investigating, and has not given us any new details. NDSU has not yet released any new information or statements.
