Minnesota Officers Involved in West Fargo Shooting Identified

WEST FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live)- On Monday, March 12, 2018, West Fargo Police Officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The vehicle fled and was pursued. During the pursuit, the suspect rammed a West Fargo police vehicle, and eventually stopped in the 1000 block of 11 St. W. in West Fargo.

The suspect did not comply with officers’ commands, a perimeter was established, and the Red River Valley SWAT Team responded to provide security and negotiations.

During negotiations, the male exited the vehicle and posed an imminent threat to the SWAT operators. The suspect was shot by SWAT operators, taken into custody and transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Two of the SWAT operators who fired at the suspect are identified as Moorhead Officer Brandon Desautel and Clay County Deputy Kyle Diekmann.

Brandon Desautel has been with the Moorhead Police Department for 4 years. Kyle Diekmann has been with the Clay County Sheriff's Office for 4 years.

In accordance with policy and procedures, the officers have been placed on paid administrative leave. Photo of Minnesota Police Officers are not being provided in compliance with Minnesota data practice laws.

The incident is still under investigation by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation. No further information will be released at this time.
