Major pileup closes all lanes of I-35 in Iowa

AMES, Iowa (KARE 11) -- All lanes of I-35 were closed near Ames, Iowa, due to a multi-vehicle pileup.

The Iowa State Patrol closed the southbound lanes at the 116 mile marker around 12:30 p.m.

At 1:30 p.m., the northbound lanes were closed as well.

Nathan Ludwig with the Iowa State Patrol says multiple semis were involved in the crash and it will take some time to clear them from the scene.

Iowa DOT traffic cameras show dozens of cars off the road.

At least a dozen people have been hospitalized for injuries.

Roads in central Iowa are either partially or completely covered with snow.
